War… A Human Sickness, but a Profitable One…

Type in ‘war is like a disease without a cure‘ into an Internet search browser and you won’t find articles or even a “Wiki” page with information about such a statement…  The closest thing you may find is a webpage describing a workshop summary of a forum on the ‘Contagion of Violence‘  which could pretty much be a good description of war – a ‘contagion of violence; war, after all, is all about violence, isn’t it…?  And, that violence is contagious…

A contagion usually will spread if it is not isolated from the population as a whole, i.e., quarantined to prevent it from spreading further and wiping out whole populations…  Maybe that is what has to happen now, quarantine wars to keep them from spreading worldwide here in the twenty-first century; a nice thought but not at all possible or even practicable; especially with the current so-called ‘leader of the free world’ occupying the White House at this writing…

War is a tragic and a sick thing, but at the same time for those who invest in the making and selling of “war tools” it is a very profitable business… In a 2013 article in USA Today, “…the 100 largest contractors sold $410 billion in arms and military services. Just 10 of those companies sold over $208 billion.”

  1. Lockheed Martin: $46.5 billion
  2. Boeing: $68.7 billion
  3. BAE Systems: $30.7 billion
  4. General Dynamics: $32.7 billion
  5. Raytheon: $24.9 billion
  6. Northrop Grumman: $26.4 billion
  7. EADS: $68.3 billion
  8. Finmeccanica: $24.1 billion
  9. L-3 Communications: $15.2 billion
  10. United Technologies: $58.2 billion

From those kinds of figures it would seem that the ‘military industrial complex‘ President Dwight  D. Eisenhower warned about in his 17 January 1961 farewell speech, is very much alive and doing very well…

Yes, ‘War… A Human Sickness, but a Profitable One‘…  provides lots of employment and high wages for those in and those who run the ‘military industrial complex’, a complex of war machine production that has been and will continue to be busy since the 20th century until such time war is quarantined for the contagion of violence it is…
